Dr Eddie Mitchell was to many a pastor, a friend, a husband, a father, a brother, a son, a leader, and an example as a follower of Jesus Christ.
RiversEdge Church and RiversEdge International Fellowship mark the passing of Dr Eddie R Mitchell.
On Sunday, May 1, 2022, Dr Eddie R Mitchell passed from this life to his eternal reward with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. We are assured of this one thing: those who died in faith in Jesus Christ and the price paid at the Cross will be with the hope of their salvation and the Father of all mercies forever.
We weep with those who weep, we grieve with those who grieve, and we laugh with those who laugh.
Dr Eddie Mitchell left a rich legacy of faith, leadership, and love for his family, his friends, this church he and his wife, Joyce Sheridan Mitchell, founded, the ministry fellowship he founded, and all who were touched by his life and faith.
Dr Eddie Mitchell founded RiversEdge Church [2005] and RiversEdge International Fellowship [2009]. As senior pastor of RiversEdge Church, Dr Mitchell poured his life into the community of Montgomery, Alabama. A chance visit to meet with ministers turned into a passion for the people, their community, and their state. Dr Mitchell was famous for saying, "There are only three kinds of people in this world. Those who live in Montgomery. Those who are moving to Montgomery. And, those who spend their whole lives wishing they were in Montgomery."
As Presiding Apostle, Dr Mitchell poured his life into those around him and raised up leaders to work alongside him. These leaders and the Apostolic Board of Elders of RiversEdge International Fellowship are committed to continuing the work that was put into the hands of Dr Mitchell.
Dr Mitchell was eager to build the kingdom of God and glorify Jesus Christ. As Dr Mitchell would often say in building the kingdom of God:
• “Don’t give in, don’t give up, and don’t give out.”
• “We can do more together than we can by ourselves.”
Dr Mitchell began a street outreach ministry in 2020. He would walk Dexter Avenue down the hill from the Capitol building and Dexter Avenue Baptist Church to the fountain circle, and sometimes beyond, down to the Alabama River.
Dr Mitchell would share with anyone he could about the life saving message of Jesus and the Cross.

Founded RiversEdge Church and RiversEdge International Fellowship.
They served together in ministry for 50+ years, raised two sons, many grandchildren (some adopted), and had the privilege of seeing their great grandson born.
Dr Mitchell was a Marine, having served in Viet Nam and in the Reserves. They served in the ministry around the USA as pastors and state evangelists. Dr Mitchell served in several leadership roles within two international organizations before founding
RiversEdge International Fellowship in 2009.
Dr Mitchell is greatly missed. The mission he started goes forward.
